    Ahoy, mateys.

Tired of standard BBSing? Unconvinced by claims of yet another "totally original and different BBS"? Aye, me too. However, if the following keywords sound interesting to you, I invite you to check out Fatcats BBS:

    - Multinode ANSI graphical interface:
Home of SyncHack. Nethack, roguelike & RPG elements like HP/MP, maps,
quests, achievements, inventory and more, together with a fully
    functioning BBS shell.

    - Nerdy:
Live, eat, breathe and dream in an ANSI world. Bespoke BBS mods, ANSI art
all over the place, geeked-out interfaces, object-oriented multinode fun,
users have their own /home/dir, friendly people, etc..

    - Unconventional:
If you're looking for a traditional BBS, you'll probably leave feeling
unfulfilled, cursing my ancestors. Be forewarned. Fatcats is not your
    grandmother's BBS!

    - It's got all that generic BBS crapola, too:
Doors, message networks, interwebs UI, files, FTP, SSH, SMTP/POP3, etc..

    Address: telnet://fatcatsbbs.com, or http://fatcatsbbs.com.

Fatcats is the only existing BBS with this type of UI (AFAIK), and we are looking for some regular users.

Hope to see you on Fatcats!

    Regards,

    art@fatcatsbbsdotcom

    Hi art,

Fatcats is the only existing BBS with this type of UI (AFAIK), and we are looking for some regular users.

I was initially unsure on your UI but have grown to like it over time.

As a fellow UK sysop are you part of Fidonet Region 25/26 (UK and
Ireland)? I was wondering if there might be scope to organise a good old fashioned 'meet' some time soon? Perhaps somewhere like central London, Croydon or Reading? I am sure that I could encourage a few of my regular
UK users to these locations. Have not been to a BBS 'meet' for at least
    15 years! Thoughts?

I was initially unsure on your UI but have grown to like it over time.

Thanks, like Marmite, either you like the taste of SyncHack, or you don't, I've found. It is a bit unconventional, but I'm happy to hear you are growing into it. It is a project in progress so things are changing, getting easier all the time.

I am not part of fido, but I have been considering joining. I'll probably speak to you privately about that if you don't mind.

I would love to attend/organise a BBS meet. In truth I am not sure I'd bring much to the table from my end--most of my users are international, and few are regulars. :( But it's something I'm happy to take part in, even if it's just to show up and meet some people... let me know and we can try to kick it all off. Fatcats is based in London, FYI.

Last time I was at a BBS meet, I was in the 416 (toronto) area code, off the back of a 2600 meeting, so yeah... it has been a long, long time for me as well!

    Kind regards,

    art@fatcatsbbsdotcom

The last time I had a bbs meet was 1995. Those were great times then for me. :-)

This is off topic I know, but I've seen your ad for your BBS but have never been able to connect. It always times out on me...

Is it still up or did you decide to take it down?

    Thanks,

No it's still up. I just have firewall setting problems so I just log on
myself until I can find out how to fix the problem. I am on a Mac with a VM
and Win XP SP3+ and don't know how to open ports on Mac.

Yes I also like to call other BBS systems and tried calling you but was
unable to connect. Maybe I should have told you earlier. I don't know
anything about how Apple computers work so am not able to help much.

The only advice I can offer is to ensure your broadband router is setup
to allow inbound port 23 connections and to route such traffic to your
Apple computer. This often requires that you configure the router with a static LAN IP address for your Apple network card MAC address.

If you want to share the OS version and VM software and version information with me, I'd be willing to see if I can help. Haven't worked with MAC's
much, but you never know. Might get lucky.
