Seems like this is only going to go one way. If we sanction them, they'll sanction us... and they're major players in raw metals, grain and oil and gas production. Life is going to get tough for us all if this conflict continues and escalates further. These oil and gas prices are already killing me! Glad I don't have a monster of an engine in my car or a large house to heat up.

The good part of having lands is that if there is food shortage you can grow your own vegetables. For small consumption you do not even need fuel, since you can still plow by hand. It is a lot of work but, historically, people in cities have it way worse during crisis.

Indeed, and if the lands are large enough, you can likely harvest some
    tasty critters as well.

For small consumption you do not even need fuel, since you can
still plow by hand. It is a lot of work but, historically,

Yes, and of course you can use animals such as horses (as you well
know) to do plowing/hauling work also, and they get their fuel from
the land they are working. :-)

I don't really garden much these days, because I don't have to and

Actually, I have a lot of trouble coming up with time to tend a harvest, so I have started using opaque plastic sheets to cover the ground and prevent weeds from eating the harvest away.

Basically, I place the sheets on the ground and make holes through them. Then I plant the tomatoes and their friends through the holes. Since the growth of weeds is drastically cut off, it removes a lot of work. THe bad news is a lot of plants won't do it with such setup (such as potatoes).

Well I heard they produce around 20% of the world's grain along with Ukraine who are responsible for around 10% of the world's grain. This will have massive implications as Ukraine may miss an entire harvest due to the war and Russia will be sanctioning the trade of commodities with the West. We in Europe are highly dependent on imports from that area. The BBC have already reported that food inflation will go up by around 15% this year.

Horse feeds are getting their price slightly inflated, but since the area I live in is
a grain producing Juggernaught, it is not dangerous inflation and I doubt it will be.
Maybe we should repurpose some potato fields for grain for a change.

Something nobody is mentioning is fertilizers are going through the roof because
industrial ones are made from fossile fuels. Now, those not using cattle and horse
poop are gonna suffer the price this year.

If you want to be all sneaky about it, I've seen large plastic tanks designed to fit under decks that connect to your gutter system. My parents have a cistern by the house that collects water. We'd lower a sump pump on a chain and pump water into the sprayer. When the power would go out, we could draw water from it for washing, and use bottled water for drinking.

I've been considering learning how to process bio diesel for heating my home, and the biggest obstacle is I don't want to waste my well water on the glycerine flushing cycle of the process. I was storing water from my

Bury a large plastic tank in your yard and use it like a cistern. when it's full, turn a valve and let it drain into your yard or garden. Add a submersible pump, and connect it to you sprinkler system or power washer.

Regarding the diverting of rivers, consider the property values in a palce
such as Vale, Colorado, and consider how rich some of thsoe people must be. I
live in southwest Michigan, and a property down the road from me was listed for $8 million a few years ago. People with big money like that are williung to landscape and create features they cannot naturally obtain.

Last I checked we were getting like 9% of our oil from Russia. I 'd
prefer to get none at all. I find it crazy to hear people discussing
getting oil fro m Iran or Venezuela. It's trading one evil for
    another

hey it's putin's fault! it's all his fault for everything. build back better would have worked!!! :D

Lol, Don't you just love the Democrat blame game? :)

This past week, both the NY Times and NY Post reported of it existence. So
I guess we should call the line above White House disinformation? Psaki disinformation? Biden disinformation? Some disinformation for sure, but
    it isn't apparently Russian.

    You spelled Joe Biden wrong.
Here is what Trump actually said "I take full responsibility. It's not my fault that it came here," meaning COVID-19

Then he said this - "It's China's fault. You know what, it's not Joe's fault that it came here either. It's China's fault. They kept it from going into the rest of China, for the most part, but they didn't keep it from coming out to the world including Europe and ourselves."

Some states claim the rain belongs to them. In places like Colorado, they've had housing developers re-route small rivers and streams to flow on to people's properties to give them that picturesque view.

Ironically, the law changed a few years ago that allowed residents served by Denver Water to capture rain water runoff for personal use.
