I wonder if someone got a new Modem for Christmas :-P At least that's what it reminded me of when BBS Noobs got a
'puter and modem for XMas and got onto the BBS echos for the first time. Now'days there's no excuse, but back in
the day some of those older systems didn't do lowercase very well, especially the TRS-80 systems.

I think I got halfway through the first paragraph before I stopped reading
it. I was afraid that if I read any further I might incur some brain damage.

But at least he was considerate enough to type that in all caps. That's a
good way of saying "Do not read me!"

Yep, I remember that, but it was mainly because of new C64 users with dumb terminal programs.

I recall getting my hands on one particularly nifty C64 terminal program that actually emulated 80 characters. At the time, that Commodore was the only computer I had, so I was ecstatic to run across that program. :)

Yuppers, I was one of those rugrats back in the day as I dialed into my first BBS in 1988 using my 300 bps direct connect modem and TRS-80 Color
COmputer 2 which was only 32 columns wide per line. Crazy how times have changed --

What's fun though is I still have all that old equipment, so maybe some day I can pull it out and show my kids how it used to be.

HA!! That's what I used to doo too! Way too funny. (not the programming but the VAX via 64) When I first moved to my place here, I was still taking a few classes at TinkerToy Tech (College of Marin) and sure'nuf.. someone wrote the phone number on the jack the modem was plugged into. Thankfully the CIS class I was taking at the time was self paced. I was able to turn in my final almost three weeks early. Those were the days!

It was so long ago it may have been me on that one 64 I owned -- I remember trying to sort out why I could only type in uppercase characters with the

Yeah! I never owned it, but a friend of mine had it on his 128. We
were just kids, and I was still learning computing, but I was pretty
blown away by it. I don't think I'd even seen Windows or a Mac yet.

I've got about 5, though 2 of them don't function. A couple of them I purchased for $2 at the local Pawn shop. That was in about 1994 or 95 when they were well on their way out. The problem is, that I only have 1 power brick! I think I might have a second one still at my folks place from ages ago, I hope they haven't thrown that out yet. Also got a disk drive a couple of the datasette drives. There is a Vic20 in the collection too.

However, I don't have them set up ready to use, just taking up space.

I used a variety of PET[1]s in high school. They had some models with a whopping 32k of RAM, real keyboard, and 80 column screen. 2 140k floppies using that weird IEEE bus, and an add-on chip that did cool graphics.
