• Questions on Materials

From Nicholas Kill@VERT/SUMMER to All on Fri Jan 27 17:37:47 2012
I have searched, and still am searching, the net to find a free resource for the material I need to know/study for my first HAM license. So far I've found several practice tests and sites that offer a book about the tests, but none that offer a way to get the "textbook" to study. Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a copy of it? Free would be best, but even a site to order it would be helpful at this point.

Not to step on any toes, but have to agree with you a bit. I found one site (would love to find some free
info, but guess that's asking too much) https://ssl.qrz.com/bookstore has a book CD for $20.95. Sounds like
a good book/cd to get. Also Ham Operator Software looks like it'd be good to help learn it.
Later in the year, after my tax return comes in, I'm going to see about getting it and maybe a cheap 2meter
radio for when I get licensed.... I'll eventually be joining up in the south central ham radio club in
Mississippi, in Mc Comb, they've got some really helpful people there....

... So easy, a child could do it. Child sold separately.

Thanks for the website. I'll take a closer look when I've had at least one
cup of coffee in me later today :) I might just have to break down and buy
that or a similar book so I can get started.

    Sincerely,
    Nicholas

Not really a text book but it may help you in your quest... http://hamelmer.com/Assets/Docs/Tech/HamElmer%20Technician%20Study%20Guide%202. 1.pdf

The BEST place for a free study guide is the No Nonsense Tech License Study Guide. They took the questions and made them statements.

If you are completely new, I also suggest the books by Gordon West. Best investment I've made in learning to become a ham.

And the free tests.. take them as many times as you need!

    Hope they help!

Wow! Allready I've learned a lot just from reading about 3/4 of the book!
Some of the info I've allready
known, others I had an idea but wasn't sure, then there's a large part of it that I still have to study up
on.... Getting the formula's memorized for Ohm's Law is one thing.... I like the 300 divided by frequency
equals wave length thing.... Helps in knowing if it's a 2meter, 6 meter, etc.

... Computer Hacker wanted. Must have own axe.

Coolness, First sample test I took and I missed 12. 3 more correct answers to pass it. Considering I just
read through the study guide 75% of the way or so last night till my eyes was too tired to continue,
not too bad. I should be able to pass the test within a month or so.... ... Computer Hacker wanted. Must have own axe.
