• Ham radio ?!?

    From Kd8ncv@VERT/DXSTAT to DOVE-Net.HAM_Radio on Sun Apr 29 18:35:00 2012
I am working on setting up a Synchronet BBS with a Packet Radio theme
    and Ham Radio in general.

I run a BPQ32 packet radio node and will have it linked along with all
of the Packet Bulletins that are out there. But my question is, are
there any sysops out there that have done something like this and is it possible for Packet Radio users to hop on my Synchronet BBS?

It dosen't look like there is any activity in this message base, so I
hope this meessage dosen't just sit on peoples hard drives and never
    gets viewed.

I have a partial implementation of the AX.25 protocol written in Javascript for Synchronet. It will hopefully become more of a complete implementation in time, and there are definitely some bugs to be worked out. It's not a finished product but it's in a somewhat usable state. It's designed to work with KISS-mode TNCs, but I've set it up so that hopefully without much trouble it could be made to exchange AX.25 frames via other methods.

I'll be committing some code to the Synchronet CVS today or within the next few days including a KISS + AX.25 library, a tunnel script to link an AX.25 client with a simple service running under Synchronet, the aforementioned service
(a simple packet BBS UI) and another script to allow BBS users to make outbound AX.25 calls (subject to whatever restrictions the sysop places on running it.)

Basically yes, it will eventually be possible for packet users to hop onto a Synchronet BBS, but there will definitely be some bugs to work out initially. Eventually I hope to have something reliable and compatible with other packet BBS software so that Synchronet can directly exchange mail and bulletins with other systems over the air.

If you simply want packet users to be able to connect to your Synchronet board the way a telnet / SSH user would see it, there's also the option of running JNOS and using its telnet functionality to let AX.25 clients telnet-via-AX.25 over to your BBS. I did this for a while but it was a lackluster solution.

Well, this isn't the most active sub on DOVENet, but it sees spurts of activity, including some posts only a few days ago. There are definitely people monitoring it.
