    Excellent news! Congrats!

I made an appearance at our FD event...but wasn't able to stay long. I had to work the weekend. Seems every time FD comes around, I have to work.

I started working digital modes on Field Day and ended up sticking around longer than I anticipated. Folks kept asking me questions about digital mode.A couple of weeks later I got my rig setup for inside use and made my first contact on digital mode using BPSK. Since then... I just don't find phone conversations as nice as digital! With digital, I can work stations that are weak with 20 watts of power and still make out what they're saying. With phone, I push 100 Watts and have to repeat what I say because the other station can't hear me for all the noise... Gosh... Digital wins!

    Congratulations to you as well!!

As a General class Volunteer Examiner (VE), I was only able to administer
the Technician class test. After I upgraded to Amateur Extra, I am now able
to administer all US class exams. That is the main reason, with the "just
to do it" factor a distant second.

Kinda same here. I was a General, became a VE. Didn't think I could pass the Extra test at first, tried it once. Then I went to Hamtestonline when someone on here I believe was talking about a Canadian test. I went there and took the Canadian test and realized if I lived in Canada, I'd probably be stuck on VHF! I took a sample of their Extra Test Stud questions and they really explained how to answer some of the questions. I was just barely passing the test online when I passed it at the VE exam. Actually, first time I took the test they said I missed it by 1 point! I took it again and they said I could miss another 5 questions and pass!

Incidently, now that I'm an Extra, I rarely spend any time in the Extra area of the bands. I mainly find myself in the General class section, which usually has more people any way...

Same here. I am still mostly on VHF and occasionally on UHF repeaters. I
have taken somewhat of a break lately. It has been extreemly hot (over 15
days 100*F or more. I missed Field Day due to vehicle issues (starter), although I did take the XYL's car to help tear down on Sunday.

I occasionally check into an HF net (The Noontime Net 0900-about 1330
Pacific Time on 7.2685 Mhz on 40 meters) and some local VHF nets. I am not into contesting. I do have a Icom IC-706 in my work truck along with
2-meters and APRS (W6RAY-14). One of my power supplies quit working so I am limited until it is repaired.

I also dabble in Amateur Television in the 70cm band. The Club is working
on an ATV repeater using both 70cm and 23cm.

I still need to get mine. Just been too busy to study.

But at least I got a HF rig recently to get on the air with (Kenwood TS-2000).

Still waiting on W5YI to upgrade my VE. Haven't heard a word from them. Seem's like it's been a month or so. I just had my hopes kicked in, in a way. I was enjoying being able to run my radio inside, then all the power went out in the ham shack, dining room, kids room, and part of the kitchen. 1/2 of the rear trailer knocked out and no breakers are tripped. I moved the rig back to the truck on the screwdriver until I can hear from the electrician on how much it will run and what the problem was. Depending on what the outcome is, I may move the G5RV cable to where I can use it in the truck as a second antenna.
