    Hi:

My son left some electric equipment and I do not know about it but I am going to give or sell a few things of it. I hope I am doing this ok because I am not very good at it but I will post info on one radio that I have that might be something which fits this area of talk.

I do not know if it is of any value and if anybody can use it and make the offer I will send it. If it is not very interesting or good I will just dispose it.

Thanks for taking a look and I hope I did the posting properly.

    Thank You

    Leon Sobel

It looks like a Yeasu FT-897 HF/VHF/UHF Radio.. If so, it would be worth around $500 - $750 depending on the condition. If you want to take a digital picture of it and email it to me at: w8zzu@comcast.net I would be more than happy to identify it for you and give you a ballpark as to how much it is worth. It is definatly an HF ham radio or some sort. Is there a model number or name on the box? Why did your son leave these radios? Don't throw the radios away, you can get good money for them.

Sorry but I do not see well and I hope I gave enough enformation on it. One radio has a micorphone that looks like a taxi cab radio one and there is other ones that are sitting on a desk. Anyway I hope you fellows know if any of this stuff is ng or not but i have to get rid of things here.

But the FT890 could be the FT 8900 a 2meter radio. I think the FT 450

Of course it could be something entirely different.

The FT450 is a newer radio that just got approved by the FCC and type accepted for amateur use about 1.5 months ago. http://www.rigpix.com/yaesu/ft450.htm

And yet THAT page was created/updated back in March (If the note on the page is acurate)

They have been advertising the radio since last Feburary (Pending FCC approval) like they always do. It was type accepted and started becoming available about 1.5 months ago.

Doesn't mater to me. I ain't got $1500 to spend.

They are around $799.00 new with shipping.

    I like my FT897

I know, I used to own one and have a friend that unfortunatly owns one. They have very poor recieve on HF (even for a yaesu) and they warble on and drift on SSB.

I am happy with my Icom 746PRO complete station with SP-20 Speaker, PS-25 Power Supply and SM-8 desk Mic.

It would be difficult.. 10 Meters this time of the year and at the bottom of the sun spot cycle is not very good. I did work a few stations in Texas today though on 10. It is all hit and miss.. In a few years you will be able to talk to Japan with 1 watt. Have you ever experienced a sun spot cycle at its peak?

NO. I have never had any HF radios during any sun spot cycle's. This time I hope to have a few HF setups, and make some contacts. I have some time to gather gear. It will be fun, can't wait.

What kind of Radios do you have now?

    Motorola HT1000 2m
    Motorola spectra 2m
RCI 2980 (I put this back to the factory specs. When I got it, it was a mess) Alinco 2m. packet rig.

I sold just about all my ham gear about 7 years ago. I do wish I never sold my repeater. view from the repeater site. http://laketahoerecreation.com/genoa/genoa_peak_pano1.html

I am slowly getting back into the hobby again.

The repeater site, was run by generator. Still is. I was friends with the owner of the site. I got free rent. Just had to help fuel, twice a year. Help as in, help the fuel truck driver, get there and run the fuel lines. But when he sold the site, it was time to go. But it was there for almost 4 years. In its own little building. The original building, was build in the 40's in the base of the tower.

    Its was VHF, 145.270.

I got of out the ham radio hobby, mostly due to the lack of younger people. The average age around here is 50+ I don't have much in common with them, and they are very cl-icky. Almost to the point, of being unbearable. But the tides have turned, and there are more people in the hobby, and its just time to return.
