Curious if anyone ever interacted with Garry Shandling. Apparently, he'd been an amateur radio enthusiast from his teens until his death in 2016. I've been rewatching his work (It's Garry Shandling's Show and The Larry Sanders Show, amongst other work like stand-up and hosting gigs), so I started looking into his life. That's where I learned of his passion for radio. As far as I can tell, the last sign he used was KQ6KA and he used "Dave Waddell" as a
pseudonym to anyone he didn't know well enough to trust with his actual identity.

    According to Wikipedia:
Shandling was a licensed amateur radio operator. Starting as a teenager he held the callsigns WA7BKG, KD6OY and KQ6KA. The latter he held with a pseudonym, Dave Waddell, to avoid undue attention when he operated. [46]

I'm sure I can look this up, but I'll ask anyway - what does it take to be

I really can see how they might have allowed this. Even Senator Barry
Goldwater operated and was licensed under his own name, and in the country
of Jordan King Heussien also operated under his own name. Funny thing about
the King, if you did work him on the air and referred to him as "your majesty" he became -very- offended! He was happy to remind those that while he is
on the global airwaves he is an amateur radio operator and requests he be treated as everyone else.

Another famous and probably best looking ham operator was Farrah Fawcett.

I would imagine a few QSL cards are. When you consider the average age of
a ham is 70 (fact!) there's probably more SKs than active ones... and those
who are still active most likely are taking some form of daily medications.

Interesting. I didn't know she was a ham.

Oh yes indeedy she was! If you ever wanted to know the definition of a pile-up... you should have caught a frequency she popped on <G>

They mentioned that on the QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association) Webinar this past Saturday...even pausing for a moment of silence for the
    SK's in the last year.

I trashed them out in the chat room after the meeting had ended, when
one ham had offered to buy VE6AFO, president of QCWA, a beer. I typed in
"I'll take a diet green tea citrus...you can hold my beer" (hi hi). I was
told this morning on a D-Star Net that "in the south, you're also supposed
to say 'Watch This!!'" after saying that. I doubt it applies to Mug, Barq's, Dad's, Hires, or A&W. Man, now I want a root beer float. <G>

Oh yes indeedy she was! If you ever wanted to know the definition of a pile-up... you should have caught a frequency she popped on <G>

Do you remember her callsign?? I know she is a Silent Key now (anal cancer, from what I understand).

This is true. I'm not on the air as much as I used to be. Vision problems
of late (mainly corneal abrasions) have made it hard to be at the computer
for long periods of time...either for nets, or getting the BBS into the

it difficult to sit at the computer, or to stand in one spot, for long

    Brian,

There's been sooo many it's unreal. Of course the cause is all COVID -

I sent back all my ham radio license exam items to ARRL/VEC yesterday.
In the local area, I doubt we'll be able to get to use facilities until August...and by then, kids coming back from summer vacation, will bring COVID-19 with them...and we'll be right back where we started. While it
cost a good bit, I sent it all in one big box. Now, if it turns out I can
do a session, they'll just send the needed items, and I'll send the stuff
    back afterwards.

Mug and A&W are my two favs :)

There used to be a restaurant in the Miami, Florida area years ago,
called "Royal Castle" and they had a drink called "Birch Beer". It
was non-alcoholic, but it wasn't what you'd call root beer, but I did
    like the flavor.

Now I can't recall what it was. If you can find her obit online I think
it may mention what it was. That was the last time I saw it listed.

I remember a deal on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In years ago (I'm really showing my age now <G>), where it noted "I wish someone would turn off
Farrah's Fawcett". I believe she married Lee Majors, who was "The Six
Million Dollar Man"...and I think Lindsay Wagner was "The Bionic Woman".

I'm usually not around for very long saturday - monday at least.
Yesterday I slept for 24 hours with the exception of committing body function needs... eat and recycle what was consumed <G> Muscle relaxer meds knock me completely out! Arthritis build up in my C5 causing my
left side to experience the joys of pinched nerves.

I have a 15 page medical list, with all my doctors, surgeries, meds (OTC
and Rx), conditions, etc. The only thing it doesn't have is a full front
and back nude photo...then, it would be "everything you wanted to know
about me medically, but were afraid to ask". <G> One time, when I went to
the ER, and they asked me my medical history, I handed it over to them,
and said "Read This!!". I thought the nurse was going to kiss me!! She
said "This makes it so much easier for us".

I'm considering changing PCP's, because one local area hospital system
has no idea how to update their patients data files. I was repeatedly
told I need certain procedures, which have already been done...and I
can't see the need to do them again...never mind Medicare won't pay for
it if it's sooner than a year and a day between them (unless it's
absolutely medically necessary). Even their IT department has no clue.
