Congrats DM. Now you get you general so you have HF access. Also send me an email at earlier posting address, or just look me up on QRZ.COM and email me from there. Would love to help you get going chasing DX.

Just curious, is Deuce's a vanity callsign? I just clicked to "K6" and "BSD"...lol

Yeah, both are vanity signs. DMs shows how much he loves weather and Pearson International Airport while mine celebrates obsolete AMD processors and UNIX derivatives.

The 6 theoretically indicates our stations are in California, but this is not required of vanity signs, so we may not be.

I don't think I've spoken with Leo, but General in the first session is absolutely the way to go (I git extra a month or so later).

Another fan of TWiT :) Actually Leo took the Tech and General exams about
two weeks apart plus he had Gordon West helping him, which Gordon is one of the most well known ham trainers around. I used his CD's to get my tech license about 5 years ago. Some day I'll get my General though, but heck
I haven't turned on my 2m mobile in probably two years.

Good to see other Hams on here :)

Well... I'm not interested in VHF and above at all, so I needed my general.
    :-)

I picked up my extra a couple months after mt General because once I got my rig up and running and a non-crap antenna up, the frequency limitations on general were irritating (especially during weekends with the contest traffic).

Now that I've passed every test the FCC is interested in my passing, I'll be starting on learning CW.

I still don't really have an opinion on contesting though... I understand that the hobby is about communicating and that contesting gives you a chance to communicate with a large number of other stations and thereby learn to operate your station better, but with one going on almost every weekend whenever propagation isn't completely crap, it's hard to find the general and advanced operators who want to rag chew or fiddle with equipment and give signal reports.
