Find a VHF/UHF hand held. They are usually the least expensive. You can
get one from deal extreme for about 100$. Then get a amplifier. I bought
mine on ebay for 70$. You will need a Standing wave ratio meter so you
don't fry your new equipment. You will be able to hit a repeater and
talk across the country. I recomend finding a radio club near you.
