The newer ones have a docker engine, don't they? There are Synchronet
docker containers out there, seems like a great way to consolidate
the apps and storage in one unit.
It does run containers, and I do have some running. I haven't checked
for Synchronet. That also could be an approach. I know it's just a 4
core Intel Celeron J4125, but my BBS is running on a Core 2 Duo in a
VM, and the machine is basically idling, so I feel it's more than
enough power. The only big door I'm Running is actually a Tradewars
game server also in its own VM, and also, even with a lot of players
logged in, it's not struggling at all.
So I guess when I have a few days off, I might try.
If you're using the BBS.io image, will be making some changes this
weekend to update the build and run scripts... there's a sample docker-compose.yml you can use to get started with. It doesn't take
much overhead for Synchronet.
If you wanted to run TWGS in a container, that gets a bit harder, You basically have to have a GUI with WINE, there's a sample that I built to
try it, which seems to work okay... but it's less smooth, you basically connect over VNC to that.
The Celeron J4125 should be more than enough, would suggest 4gb ram on
the system as a minimum for running docker... you can use less, but will
need swap sometimes, and not recommended.
