Enabling address sanitizer causes any memory leaks to change the return value of the program, e.g.:
```
2023-06-04T16:55:43.092257-07:00 git sbbs: evnt FIDOOUT sbbsecho: SUMMARY: AddressSanitizer: 5439520 byte(s) leaked in 71473 allocation(s).
2023-06-04T16:55:43.121631-07:00 git sbbs: evnt FIDOOUT Timed event: FIDOOUT returned 1
```
Memory leaks from a program that is terminating are harmless, but as I recently discovered (with SCFG), resolving those memory leaks (calling `free()` on all the dangling pointers) can be helpful in exposing otherwise-silent heap corruption (!).
