    The file mail.sdt is in the directory. Any ideas? Email was working fine yesterday, now it won't send netmail and shows this error.

    The answer is right there in the error message. Permission denied. Make sure that the user you're running Synchronet as can read & write that file.

    I don't Windows very often, but is there a chance you first ran your BBS as another user (or 'run as administrator') and then this time, started it up as a different user (or without elevated privileges)?

    Yeah, it's not saying the file isn't there. It's saying that it does not have permission to open the file. Is it possible that another process has the file open and locked? I would shutdown sbbs and try using "smbutil r" to read the data/mail and see if that is successful. If not, then I would reboot to insure that there isn't some process in the background somewhere with the file open and locked. If after rebooting, you still can't open the file, then I would suspect the permissions on the file itself are a problem.

    I would guess that *all* email functions would fail, not just netmail.

    Nope, been running it the same way since 2014
