Trying to setup SyncEdit according to this:

When I look in the external.bat, it is doing this:
/sbbs/exec/syncedit -maxlines 1 -f /sbbs/node1/MSGTMP

I notice the path to the drop file is trying to be a linux path instead of something like d:\sbbs\node1\MSGTMP
Likewise for the executable, and I probably should be doing something like SYNCEDIT.EXE as well

I've tried a bunch of variations and I'm out of ideas. What should the command line be set as?

Forward-slashes in paths work just fine in DOS and Windows apps. That's not the problem.

I've tried a bunch of variations and I'm out of ideas. What should the command line be set as?

It's been ages since I tried to deal with syncedit. Assume whatever version you installed had some documentation?

I've made progress. I had to make sure the SYNCEDIT.CFG was in the exec dir and in all caps

In scfg I had to change the path to H:\SYNCEDIT.EXE

Now syncedit runs, but it tells me "Sorry, you have used up of your time for this session."

I'm guessing that means it is not reading the MSGINF correctly? or maybe I have something wrong on the cmd line:

h:\syncedit -maxlines %l -f %f

Ok got this figured out. I noticed the time left/minutes left were 0 in the door.sys. I had to go in and edit my user to put some value like 99999 in there, and now it works.

Ok got this figured out. I noticed the time left/minutes left were 0 in the door.sys. I had to go in and edit my user to put some value like 99999 in there, and now it works.

That seems... odd. Was that line 42 of the door.sys you're referring to? My notes say that is "Time credits in minutes" but lines 18 and 19 actually have the time left for the current call. Are those 2 lines also 0 (when your minutes are set to 0 for the user)?

It's possible it's a bug in SyncEdit (nobody has the source), but I would like to make sure it's not a bug in sbbs's generation of the door.sys (or any other) drop file.

That's very unexpected. You were logged in as the sysop? What do you have set in SCFG->System->Security Level Values->Time Per Call for level 99 (or whatever your security level is)? Do you also have the 'T' exemption on your user account?

I have sec level 99, no flags, no exemptions, no restrictions
in UEDIT the minutes was set to 0, which is also what was set under New User Values/Minutes in scfg. I don't recall every changing it, I just used what the system defaulted to. I would have assumed 0 would mean unlimited. I set it to 99,999 and its basically unlimited now. Is this minutes per day? If so I should probably put 1440

I think we're talking about different things. I asked you about the security level settings for level 99. The default in SCFG->System->Security Level Values->99, should look like this:

The other "minutes" value you're referring to are additional purchased or banked minutes. Normally, the banked minutes would be 0.

So I went back to my backup and it was set to 720 time per day, 720 time per call. No idea what happened with this, but since its working now I won't worry about it

Ok so I figured out a hack to make it work:

%f is resolving to /sbbs/node1/temp/INPUT.MSG

And wwivedit won't work, since e:\sbbs does not exist
it's doing:

cd node1


I hardcoded it in scfg to:
H:\wwivedit\wwivedit.exe e:/node%#/temp/input.msg 80 %r %l
and this works

But why doesn't %f resolve properly under dosemu, and what do i need to change to make that work?

I don't use DOSemu, so I wouldn't know. Perhaps someone else that does use Linux-DOSemu can chime in with advice.

/sbbs/node/external.bat should show what those drives are being set as. If they're different from what http://wiki.synchro.net/howto:dosemu shows, then there's something else wrong.

You're running a *nix setup correct? It't not going to understand H:, E:, C:, etc., this is for dosemu to translate. Show your online program setup for that door.

I don't run WWIVEdit so I don't know if %f is even needed, but you need to post more info. Additionally, since wwivedit is essential a DOS Door, having it in your nodes directory is probably an issue as well, why is it not in your /sbbs/xtrn directory?
