Trying to set up my standard internet email client (BlueMail) to

However, now I get a "1144 SMTP !ILLEGAL RELAY ATTEMPT" error that
I can't seem to get around. I searched (Googled) this error and can't

Are you setup to use your username/password to authenticate for sending
email?
Do a straight telnet to your smtp port on your bbs, general port is 25
(for inbound), submission port is 587, and the smtps port is 465
(deprecated) iirc. You should check all of them to ensure you can
connect from the outside, and that your router/firewall is forwarding
those connections.
You may want to use Sengrid, Mailgun, Amazon SES or similar to relay
your outbound mail with higher delivery rates... I've been using
Sendgrid, and that's worked pretty well for me, the free tier is likely enough. IIRC, you can also use vert.synchro.net for relayed in/out if
you're usng .synchro.net dyndns and talk to Rob if you are being blocked
on default ports and want to relay in/out.
