Noticing that a 'modern' replacement for old rlogin in Linux, rsh-client-redone, doesn't have all the options that rlogin originally
had. For instance, if you're using it with a BBS that doesn't have a
built-in outbound rlogin capability (like WWIV), it shows the host
machine's user name, visible only to the user, for a split second at the
top of the screen during the connection sequence. Which I found quite
jarring.
So I wrote a connector program, would love to get some testers! It should
work for any Linux-based BBS system. It could work for Windows, but would require more development around STDIN and STDOUT handling/conditionals.
https://github.com/robbiew/goldmine-connect
It takes everything it needs to connect to Gold Mine from the command
line, including an optional direct-launch door code.
Since Gold Mine is simply running in Synchronet's "door game server" mode, goldmin-connect could be used, with a bit of modification, by any door
game server running on Synchronet (e.g. I use the "[TAG]" format to
identify BBS origins, but maybe someone else doesn't).
Anyway, any feedback would be helpful.
And like I always say, if you want to connect to a single door server
for your BBS, you can't go wrong with BBSLink or DoorParty. But if you
want to have *another* door server, well, check out Gold Mine! :>
