• Icy Tools release

From Omnibrain@21:2/150 to All on Sat Oct 10 07:26:58 2026
    Hi

I updated all my icy tools. Re done UI again :).

    IcyTerm 0.9.0:
    https://github.com/mkrueger/icy_tools/releases/tag/IcyTerm0.9.0

+ Redesigned UI/Phonebook - new fancy SyncTerm stuff/gfx+sound should work
    + Reworked protocols
+ Fixed some bugs - like clipboard issue

    IcyView 0.9.9: https://github.com/mkrueger/icy_tools/releases/tag/IcyView0.9.9

+ added more formats, tracker playback, hideable minimap and some small features

    IcyDraw 0.6.0:
    https://github.com/mkrueger/icy_tools/releases/tag/IcyDraw0.6.0

Maybe most work did go into that, added rip, igs, atascii, vt52, petscii and skypix editors.

+ Added AI assist features (and AI assisted import)
+ Added font text layers - they should now feel more like text layers in other graphic tools. Font management got improved.

    IcyMail:
    https://github.com/mkrueger/icy_tools/releases/tag/IcyMail0.1.0

Newest addition - it's an offline qwk reader. It can use a real terminal for displaying (off by default) - I think my mail renderer implementation is good so it's not needed - only for the real retro feel.

I wanted one for UI which is easier to use.

I have tried using it, I am wondering will there be a tagline that says
    it was posted with IcyMail?

    like this:

No - you can add taglines but I don't put any advertisment in it yet.
Maybe I can make an option - but why would anyone want that?
    Just curious.

I'm not sure he means "for advertisement sake", and if he does.. that's probably the wrong reasoning. Just because other offline QWK readers put a tagline at the end of a message advertising itself, doesn't mean yours needs to.

However, the NOTE kludge can be used to show what editor was used to write a message.

I think this would be the more "correct" way for technical purposes. Basically, if something is wrong with a message, it can be traced back to whatever was used to create it (ie. NOTE kludge for editor), handle it (PID kludge for program identifier or originating system software, or the BBS software the QWK/REP packets are being created/processed with) and toss it (TID kludge for tosser identifier), etc.

It's all mentioned in FTSC documentation somewhere. ;)

I updated all my icy tools. Re done UI again :).
    IcyTerm 0.9.0:

    IcyDraw 0.6.0:

Dowloaded and build the full package under Garuda Linux and have to say that its very nice. Very cool to see that Icyterm also supports all the cool games that Syncterm supports. Now, the question is, how does one go about bribing you to put their bbs in the default dialing directory.

and with IcyDraw. This is crazy. when I went to open file, it automatically defaulted to my /sbbs/text/menu directory. is this something smart you just included, or is it opening up Syncdraws . file or something?

It just seemed pretty cool to me that it did that.

Ask - I'll add it - it's not a curated list of my most loved BBS systems. Some years ago I just wanted to provide some test systems to try out for people that do not have any clue.

The average new user may even not know what a BBS is. I want to give people an easy start that are born after 2000.

No you seem to have opened a file there before and it remembers that location. I didn't hard code any default paths.

Hm, Syncdraw need maybe to bring icy_draw to the terminal - not sure about it. IcyDraw is rooted in much older tech most ppl would think :). My first ansi drawing tool is from the 90' - you know it as syncdraw. Was a surprise for me that anyone picked that up (but didn't pick up the ~2003 update :().

But this is another story - if I would've found the sync* projects sooner icy_term maybe never would happened.

you'll get a laugh out of this one, I did'nt realize until aftwer this message that sometime earlier I had copied over a backup of my text directory to ~/Documents I guess to back them up on the fly or something because I back the whole directory tree up nightly anyway. Anyway.. thats what that was :-)

So cool, Did'nt even know :-) I used TheDraw back in the old days and when I started back up, Did'nt even know about the original Mystic Draw, until I started digging through the sbbs code and wouldnt dare ever try to fire TheDraw up since using it. So Thank You!

But this is another story - if I would've found the sync* projects sooner

Kinda weird how that works sometimes, BBSing really has come around full circle.

Check out Draw32, it's windows app that is a clone+ of TheDraw. I use it under WINE and it works GREAT!

It doesn't handle art at 80 cols very well though... I noticed that with my scrollers (which it also doesn't handle well). I reported the latter issue, not the former to Exodus. He'd have to do a major re-write to handle large scrollers.

Yeah, if I do, thats way down the road, or a bunch of people would have to cry and beg for it. <G> No offense, it would be a lot of work.

Would like to get some feedback for icy draw - if ppl stick to terminal I may need to make a MysticDraw update - after ~30years - think I fixed tons of bugs in the mystic draw algorithms in the icy draw rewrite :).

But IDK if terminal is useful there esp. icy_draw can target way more formats these days.

Yup. You're right, thats what I did. Just because you love people to play with your shit, I learned 20 years ago with Renegade, NO ONE wants to do anything but put their name on it and sit on it. There is NO POINT putting it out there. Renegade is still sitting there, and no one other than a select few have helped.

But think what you want. This from the guy that reversed PCBoard's code to IcyBoard. Whatever dude.

Recently changed editors, hitting wrong keystrokes and the BBS is firing messed up messages off before they can be deleted, will have to put a fix to that :-) But anyway, When I get time to try to get used to the UI will definatly start using it. I'm loving the fact that it has so many features.

I've never been much of an artist, at all.. but try to do my part.

Have always been partial to the terminal/console apps when it comes to BBS related stuff, But have'nt really given GUI a chance yet. But now with new tools coming out, it's getting about time to start evolving with them.
