A busy day. This build adds a good deal to the mail side of the board
and
fixes several faults that sysops ran into on live systems. Everything
below is in the installers dated 12 October 2026:
LunaBBS-Beta-Setup-20261012-1122.exe the whole board
LunaMail-Setup-20261012-1122.exe the mail programs only
Install over your existing board. Your configuration, users,
conferences
and messages are left as they are.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
NEW: LUNAMAIL CONFIGURATION ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* BinkP mailer page. The mailer's own file, BINKP.CFG, no longer has
to
be edited by hand: listen port, seconds between queue scans,
whether
LunaMail is run automatically, and the list of nodes to call with
host
name, port and session password. Buttons check the list with the
mailer, poll a node and show the queue. Your remarks in the file
are
kept and the old file is saved as BINKP.CFG.BAK.
* Nodebook page. Enter nodes and points of your own: address,
system,
location, sysop, host name and port. No nodelist is needed. Saving
writes them as a nodelist of their own and builds the board's
nodelist
database. The mailer finds these entries by address and by sysop
name. (PCBoard's database has no place for a point number, so
points
are known to the mailer and reached through their boss on the
board.)
* Several addresses. One address for each network you are in, entered
in a list, the first being the primary one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
NEW: CONTROL PANEL ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* Number of nodes for callers (Services menu). Set how many nodes
telnet, SSH and rlogin callers may use, 1 to 16. It takes effect at
the next call with nothing restarted and nobody disconnected, and it
stays until you change it. Missing node folders are made for you.
* Poll an FTN node (Services menu). Pick a node or type an address or
a sysop's name; the mailer calls it now and reports in the log.
* Call a QWK hub (Services menu). Exchange packets with one hub or
all of them, with the result in the log.
* Log in at this computer now takes a node nobody is on, instead of
always node 1.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
NEW: TELNET SERVER ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* Addresses that connect in rapid succession are blocked. Three
connections from one address within 15 seconds, and that address is
refused for 30 minutes: no node is started and nothing is sent.
All three numbers can be changed, or the block switched off. SSH
and
rlogin callers are covered too. The machine itself is never
blocked.
* The blocked addresses are in WIN32\TELNET.BLK. Delete a line to let
an address in again; a line with an address alone blocks it for
good.
* When a caller is told that all nodes are busy, the log now lists
each
node with who is on it and since when.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
FIXED: NODES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* "ALL NODES ARE BUSY AT THIS TIME PLEASE TRY LATER" with nobody on.
With Float Node Number switched on, lines left in the "who is on"
file by nodes that had been ended from outside were never freed.
In time every line said "in use" and nobody got in, by telnet or at
the computer. Each running node now marks itself in a way Windows
clears when the process ends, and a line nobody holds is used again.
Nothing has to be cleaned up by hand.
* Every telnet node ran as node 1. The node number the telnet server
gave was ignored, so node folders made from a copy of node 1's
PCBOARD.DAT all shared one line of the "who is on" list. Each
caller
is now on the node whose folder was started.
* Stopping the telnet server left its nodes running without callers.
They are ended with it now.
* The control panel could stay in Task Manager after Exit. It now
ends within seconds whatever a service is doing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
FIXED: CONFERENCES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* "(NAME) is an invalid Conference selection" for a conference that is
listed. A conference made for a new echomail area was not in the
name index that J NAME looks in. LunaMail now keeps that index up
to date, and the board finds the conference even without it.
* The same message on some nodes only. A node whose "highest
conference" number had fallen behind refused the new conferences.
Every node is now brought up to the same number at each toss.
* Choosing a conference in the lightbar browser joined nothing for
callers who are not in expert mode. The menu's "More?" prompt was
taking the command. Replying and downloading from the lightbar
screens were affected the same way and are fixed with it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
FIXED: BINKP MAILER ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* "Session failed: answered by a different system than the one called"
when polling a hub. Only the first 16 addresses a system presented
were looked at. All of them are checked now, however many there
are.
* Addresses written another mailer's way (@fidonet.org, or a network
this system has no name for) were thrown away. They are recognised
by their numbers now.
* Nodes of other networks shown as @fidonet. The mailer now learns
each network's name from the systems it talks to and adds the line
to BINKP.CFG itself. Zones 1 to 6 always stay FidoNet's.
* When a call does go to the wrong system, the log shows the address
called and every address the other end presented.
* A system with several addresses may call in under any of them: its
password is accepted if it fits the one kept for any of its
addresses.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
ALSO
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* The Windows configuration tool no longer drops the "lunamail no"
line
when it saves BINKP.CFG.
* The nodelist compiler cuts over-long nodelist fields to size instead
of running over the record.
* The control panel warns when it is started from a folder that does
not hold the board's programs. Start it from the Start menu, the
desktop shortcut or CONTROL.CMD.
* The Sysop Manual and the LunaMail Guide describe all of the above,
with a longer list of common problems and what to do about each.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
PLEASE NOTE ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
* This is a beta. The changes were checked with scripted tests
against
test boards. Not all of them have been tried on a busy live system.
* Update every program of the board together. Nodes from an older
build do not mark themselves as running, and the control panel would
show them as not running.
* Back up your board folder before installing, as always.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------
Thank you to Utopian Galt for the idea of the lightbar browser.
