• Move to 64bit os and door

I eventually decided to move my BBS to a 64-bit Linux distro. 16-bit
DOS doors run decently well with dosemu or dosemu2 (at least with Synchronet).

Not all of us are technologically adept, thats what keeps us slaves to the
    windows plantation.

It's not necessarily about being technologically adept. You don't need
any more tech know-how to do anything on some of these Linux
distributions these days than you do Windows.

The issue is more than likely that you have been so used to running
Windows over the course of 3-4 decades now, whereas you may have never
once took the time to even look at Linux. So it's probably more about
the fear of leaving your own comfort zone, than it is being some kind of 'Linux technogeek', or whatever you want to /think/ you need to be.

By all means, if you like Windows, stick with it. If you don't want to
be a "slave to the Windows plantation," use something like Virtualbox
and install and tinker with a Linux distro where you can't do any harm
to any of your cherished data. If you break something in said VM, you
can just delete it, create a new one, and start over.

Just /using/ it is how you learn it. Just like you did with Windows all
that time ago. Even when a new version of Windows comes out, you have to
use it, and over time you figure out how all the new stuff works. Linux
    is the exact same thing.

    Nick

Nick is completely right. I ran under Windows for 3 decades, starting out at Win 3.11 for Workgroups and moving through all versions. About 4 years ago I played with running a BBS in Ubuntu, and after the learning curve of using Terminal to do the basic things. I never turned back, I now only have 2 WIndows VM's running, 1 to run my Amiga Emulation since I haven't yet been able to get a Amiga Emulator as full featured and up to date as WinUAE (Although this will be changing with WinBoat) and a Win 10 32 bit to run my Door Server, although this too will more than likely change when I finally spend some time learning DosEmu.. Fire up a VM of Mint (closest to Windows in my opinion) and play with it, in my case moving to Debian made me want to use my computers again..

Sorry for going way off topic here, but may I ask what you used to quote
that? Was my original text messed up that bad that it would have quoted
it like that? Or was that something on your end (as I doubt a Mystic
internal editor would do something like that). It's possible it's just
the way it's displaying on my side, too. *shrug*

We could move this portion over to FSX_TST if you wish, I'm just messing
about in my Thunderbird about:config settings with format=flowed and
some quoting stuff trying to iron out some of these quirks I'm noticing
on my end. If I'm creating an issue that I'm not seeing, I'd like to
know about it so I can undo it! ;)

You still have to be technically adept to do things in Windows.. I imagine anyone running a BBS is probably technically adept enough for this type of thing, no matter what OS they're running their BBS in.. :)
