• Outbound telnet not working

    From sober@21:2/150 to All on Thu Apr 27 13:42:07 2023
    Hi all,

    Pretty sure it's user error but it's had me stumped for hours now.

    I've configured a menu entry to use outbound telnet, fed it an address and a port.

    Every time I hit it, it starts trying to connect to the host, but ultimately seems to time out and says "Unable to connect: Press a key" before giving up entirely.

    I've checked the logs and can't really see anything -- and equally I've checked that the system running Mystic is capable of reaching the hosts I've been trying.

    Some additional details: I'm running it on a raspberry pi, with a 64bit build of Raspberry Pi OS, Mystic version is V1.12 A48.

    Any prods in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!!

    Are you able to telnet from the command line of the pi?

    e.g:

    $ telnet agency.bbs.nz

    It might be that you need to install telnet:

    $ sudo apt install telnet

    Yeah telnet installed and I'm able to use it fine on the Pi itself - I can actually even directly execute telnet from Mystic and it will work (though have some issues forcing it in to character mode which is partly why i would like to avoid this route!)

    What does your menu command look like?

    I just set this up and it works from here:

    Action List ------------------------ Access -------- Data
    (IT) Outbound TELNET s255 /addr=agency.bbs.nz

    Line from node1.log:
    2023.04.27 19:55:02 Outbound to agency.bbs.nz:23

    From https://wiki.mysticbbs.com/doku.php?id=menu_commands

    Data: /addr=<hostname> /port=1234

    This command creates a gated terminal session to another terminal server
    using the TELNET protocol. The /addr option must be included. If the
    /port option is not provided then the default port of 23 will be used.
