Is there anything in the new chat module that would distort custom prompts
from within the file. My update is on hold because my custom prompts have lost the square special character. The version I'm runing into trouble with is:

    sbbsimsg.js $Id: sbbsimsg.js,v 1.41 2019/07/24 22:17:27 rswindell Exp $ chat_sec.js // $Id: chat_sec.js,v 1.15 2020/01/05 23:50:35 rswindell Exp $

Looks like whatever editor you're using to make that change is inserting UTF-8 chracters instead of CP437. Either set your editor to CP437 (IBM/OEM-US) or try using a different editor.

I'm using notepad ++, and I checked, it's set correctly to OEM-US. The only confusing part is, it's working on all my other menus, except chat, and it was working on chat before i changed the file. anything that uses the sbbsimsg.js or chat_sec.js has started displaying this problem. I can stop using the square, in those sections, but I'd rather not. is there something I can modify to use this character with those two files.

Changed which file? Changed it how?

It looks to be something to do with UTF-8. What terminal are you using when you see this problem? Have you tried a different terminal?

How are you "using the square" exactly? If you're putting it in your text.dat, can you paste that line here?

What version of sbbs are you using?

Would love to resolve the issue, but need more information.
