    Add more nodes?

I have a firewall script that will block an IP if it connects more than 4 times in a few minutes.

I'm not sure what OS you're running on, but it's pretty easy to do with Linux.

fail2ban/denyhost are great tools to avoid these bots

Because networking via telnet is simple, elementry stuff any any user should have a firm grasp on. Maybe for the people the grew up with it. I just figured out what this stuff was yesterday.

Yeah, I use CSF (as I've been using it for 10+ years at this point) but I do use F2B elsewhere. F2B has really matured over the years and preventing bots from connecting is fairly simple, with it.

I've never set anything like that up on Windows, I have a separate firewall/router (PFSense) on my home network to block anything stupid that tries to come in, but a brief google search seems to indicate there's at least a couple free, open-source tools that likely would be useful.

IPBan is the first one that popped up for me, as did "wail2ban", but the latter seems to not be developed/supported any longer.

I love CSF - used it for years when I was managing a bunch of cpanel/whm servers and I use it on all of my linux machines. So easy to use.
