What was your first computer that you ran Synchronet BBS on?

The first computer I ran Synchronet on was an Athlon (Barton) 2700xp, in an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard. For some reason I still have that motherboard box in my closet holding random stuff.
The first computer I ran a BBS on (which unfortunately wasn't Synchronet) was a Turbo XT IBM clone with 1200 baud modem.

I think I *might* have run it on a really crusty old Thinkpad, something in the 380 series, around 2006 - 2007. Wasn't a very serious effort, though.

After that, it was on some Compaq Pentium III workstation from around 2008 to 2010. I think I still have a hard drive around here with "ECBBS" written on it in marker, which I pulled before putting that box out at the curb.

My first attempt was on an used IBM NetVista PIII running Windows XP. It was the mid to late 2000s. I had to take it down as my ISP didn't like users running servers on restdintial accounts (cough, cough, Comcast, cough). I still have that system in my closet collecting dust. Was going to pull the floppy dring, but it has a lock on the case. I don't remmeber where I put the key. Time to pull out the good old dremel.

I can't resist computers that clients offered me. I was given a little toaster-looking HP Pavilion, circa 2004. It was a couple of years old, when all computers had to have CD cubbies and clear doors over the optical drives and two-tone cases with wings, and proprietary speakers that hung off of a monitor in a matching two-tone scheme. That thing had 512mb of RAM, a 500 mhz celeron and ATA-33 drives. But, it ran the BBS perfectly for the next 7 years.

PCs with proprietary parts always bugged me. In early high school, I had a friend who had a Packard Bell computer (a popular model at the time), and the most obvious thing was its proprietary case. It had a horizontal case, and one time we were looking inside it, and I saw it had a riser board for the expansion cards to be installed horizontally rather than vertically, and if I remember right, it also had an expansion card that was a modem and sound card in one. I thought it was pretty weird.

My Packard Bell 486DX 50 was *exactly* like this. I really liked that case too, but it was impossible to upgrade with standard parts.

The first Computer I ran Synchronet on was a IBM Netfinity 3500 M10 8655, with a 233mhz PII processor, using Synchronet 3.13A, that was in 2005. Before then I ran GAP and RA. I started the BBS in 1990 using a Tandy TX 1000 which I bought brand new for Radio SHack. It's been one hell of a ride, but very enjoyable. I'm still running Synchronet to this day. One fine piece of software. Another bit of history for valhalla is that I started the bbs back in the 1990 using Telex Host, but soon afterword switch to GAP.

hahahahah, Telix Host! I forgot all about that "bbs" Telix included Cr>> with their terminal app, written in "SALT" (Script Application Language Cr>> for Telix).

I tried using that briefly and let someone call my PC in the early 90s. I
remember it looked interesting, but it didn't seem full-featured enough to
run a full BBS with it.

It wasn't, but that didn't stop me from trying. :-)

It was called (very originally) "The Pirate's Cove". After I quickly replaced it with WWIV (and named the BBS "Vertrauen"), I
recall one user asking me: hey when are you going to put back The Pirate's Cove, I really liked that! <blink> --

Terminate had a mini bbs-like system people could dial into. Once I discovered Terminate, I never used another terminal system until I moved to Linux.

I know there's a copy of it (It's like 2-3 floppy disks) laying around on BBSes, I almost want to fire it up and tinker with it again. I can't for the life of me remember why I loved it so much.

that termbox windows installer has terminate and other softwares configured to run on dosbox
