It might be a good idea to advertise the number too...

    Have a good One!

A friend of mine once set up a system without telling anyone, as an experiment to see if people would find the thing. They did.

    Those were the days...

That was the whole point of wardialing...finding the boards that didn't advertise or which you weren't "supposed" to find. I don't think that concept has an equivalent in the telnet scene, but I do from time to time find boards mentioned on forums that aren't on BBS lists but also aren't "private boards" per se. Anyway, our mission is clear...we need to start wardialing TN area codes between 8 and 5 on weekdays. Whoever finds the board gets the honor of posting the number for all to see. Good luck!

So what would be nifty is a telnet wardialer - although, it would probably
only be good on a standard port such as 23. But go thru like a ISPs basic ip addressing looking for connections. Although it would be annoying as hell to the operator of the said "hidden" bbs.

    Just a thought.

It's called 'nmap' and its been available for a long time on *nix OSes and I'm sure it's available for Windows too. Port-scanning a lot of IPs could raise flags at your ISP though.

Yeah, so would my program I used to use... Good thing I used openDNS! ;-)

    I setup a loop...

    for t = 1 to 255
    for a = 0 to 255
    for b = 0 to 255
    for c = 0 to 255

Then, I'd do a DNS lookup of t.a.b.c to resolve the host name... Save it to a log file... Not sure what I was thinking, but you know it was capable of lighting up the lights on the old Cable modem!
