• How you know you have cancer

How do people feel when they have cancer? Like, my stomach hurts, could it be cancer? Or like if your skin develops a black spot, it can be cancer?

My cancer did not feel like anythign I started feelign pressure in my groin and then suddenly while taking a shower I thought I was growing a third ball... that turned out to be cancer and the surgery left me unable to have children.

My second encounter with cancer was no pain but started having vision disturbances. I had a pitutary glanduar cancer and they went up my nose drilled through my sinus cavity and sucked it out. Turned out that it was benign.

The third encounter was a pain under my arm... a lymph node became a cancerous lump. now one armpit is deeper than the other but they got all of that one too. Had to have radiation for that one afterward.

Now I'm battling an aggressive basal cell skin cancer in the bowl of my ear. THey took most of the skin and the cartilidge out and replaced it with plastic and graphs. I'm healing from that surgery and hope I won't need much treatment afterward.

My thoughts on cancer is I wish cancer would get cancer and die!

Wow dude I was just at the ER last week because of pressure in my groin.
They told me to see a urologist, and the urologist said I could get an appointment in like 4 months, but I was like "No way!"

Was kind of cancer was that pressure from?

Good job kicking cancer's ass so many times. I wish the very best for you.

Talwyn is an alais I used long ago when I discussed this in private. It has a Celtic meaning one who fights. Anyhow I have no problem discussing this openly with my real name.

The pressure I felt was the beginning of a lump forming in my lymph node. It could have been prostate it could have been many thing. The lump was very small but enough to put pressure on the underlying nerves to make it's presence known. I also had a lump grow in the scrotum (aka nutsack) that was attached to the epididymus (the spongy tube that the sperm swim from the testicle out of the penis). THey had to go in removed the epidydmus and a part of the testicle. Their theory was if they left the undamaged testicle part in it would continue to make testosterone. It did for a time then it turned into a hard lump and required another surgery to take it out.

All I can say is if you can't get in at a urologist try another one. Most cities have more than one and often one can get you in quicker than others.

There are other things that can make you feel pressure down there. I felt pressure like there was something in my thigh that shouldn't be there. I've also had prostititus (a prostate infection) where I felt backpressure when I urinated that was not fun as it took MONTHS of antibiotics to clear that one up.

I caution everyone to check themselves out weekly... if you have a lady (or other partner) have them go through your junk once a week. Believe me they will find something out of the ordinary quicker than you will. At least that way is fun too. Belynda found my second cancer and by finding it early you will get over it early.

All I can say is Cancer Sucks!

Did you experience the pressure every day, right up until they removed the lump? Can you remember if the pressure disappeared for a few days, then came back again?

I appreciate your advice. I will try to find another urologist. It just sucks that I might actually have to wait 4 months with this symptom.

I had my first prostate exam when I was at the ER for this, but I don't think the doctor was thorough enough. I think he was too quick to be able to tell
    if there was anything wrong.

What revealed the lump? Cat scan? X-ray? MRI? Ultrasound?

It depends on what you define as pressure. When I had a prostate problem the pressure was like a back pressure when I tried to urinate. It came and went and just slowly got more consistent.

The pressur in my groin was from a large lump that developed in my thigh. This turned out to be a cyst that they said if it continued to develop it could have turned into cancer. It had became quite hard and I felt it when I walked. It was also pretty darn deep and not somehting I easily felt by palpatation.

The testicular cancer was a differnet matter. It started by an uncomfortable feeling in my underware and I thought the elastic was bothering me. I then noticed a hard lump in the scrotum... and then that started to grow. That was the serious one and they sewn in some sort of chemical bead for that one that dissolved.

The prostate one I'll detail below. I was one of the earliest Da Vinci surgical robot patients. The surgrey would have been brutal by conventional means but the robot pretty much drilled in through a few holes and sucked that thing out piece by piece. They used some sort of radiation/chemo bead implant for that too. I still feel it though even though it's not there.

I appreciate your advice. I will try to find another urologist. It just sucks that I might actually have to wait 4 months with this symptom.

Palpataion found the lumps in my thigh... they were then Ultrasound examined to find out how big and measure the depth, density and etc. They decided to excise (Surgically remove) them and they turned out to be lymph nodes that were early stage cancer. I didn't need chemo or anything for that one because they determined they were very early stage and we just watch for a reoccurance. Knock on wood that one hasn't came back.

If they think you have testicular cancer they will do an ultrasound that's very embarrassing. You will have to have a sense of humor because they will try to stretch your nutsack across the room to do what they need to do. It was awkward, painful, and cold.

The Prostate exam needs no more discussion because you know what it is already. But if they suspect something wrong in that department they may need to do a trans rectal biopsy. Which my Girlfriend laughed because they use a speculum much like the gynecologist uses to stretch their vaginas in the back door... once they have it open they use ultrasound to find the lump and insert a biopsy needle through the rectum and take the tissue sample. The good thing is they give you the "twilight" anesthesia that is supposed to give you amnesia so you forget the procedure. I remembered most of it, it was unpleasant but not the mot painful thing I've experienced.

But seriously... if that doctor told you to go to a urologist do follow up. They are trained only to do so much in the ER. If it was something he suspected he would refer you to a specialist.

In the interum I would go to your primary care and have them re-do the exam.
IF they feel there is an urgent need they usually can gateway you into a specialist sooner through their referrals department.
