    Hello guys/gals

    New guy here...

Just wanted to see if there's any Stargate fans out there and if you know anything about any Stargate reboots or movie plans. I haven't heard anything on the topic for years although every so often something is announced as being planned then it's shut down.

I am a fan of the movie only. I bought a DVD with some episodes in it but it didn't impress me. It was an ok thing to watch but not enough to declare myself a fan.

The Stargate franchise got a long-awaited jolt last year with the period-set web series Stargate Origins, and now it sounds like MGM has brought in one of the architects of SG-1 to figure out where to go next.

Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright told the Nerks of the Hub Podcast he has been in contact with MGM about the Stargate brand, after a years-long period of disconnect between the two parties following the abrupt cancellation of Stargate Universe in 2011. Now, that doesn't mean fans should expect a full-fledged new TV series anytime soon, but Wright said MGM seemed open to conversations and was receptive to his wish to honor the hundreds of hours of world-building and television that had come before via SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Universe.

Oh wow! I didn't know there was a web series. I'm going to make sure to check it out today!

    [UPDATE]
I just watched the trailer and looks like fun.

Stargate Origins can be watched here: https://www.stargatecommand.co/watch/series/stargate-origins
Unfortunatly you need a paid subsciption, $20/year, to view! Nah.. I'll search a little more
    to watch it.

well universe had bad writing until the last season. weirdest thing i saw in a show in a long time.

Yes, Universe was finding its feet in the second season, and the mystery of the cosmic microwave background was intriguing. I'd have loved to have seen what that led to.

That's the problem I have with some of these Marvel movies. A perfect example would be Spider-Man. I want to love it but it feels each new movie is nothing more than a reboot. That kills it for me.

That must be because they are actually rebooting Spiderman every five minutes.

On the other hand, by the time they reboot each batch, it had already turned to trash IMO.

Agreed. At first I WANTED to love the show but was having a hard time. The reason was due to the scientist, Rush.

That guy really got under my skin. He wasn't a villain, just really selfish or what not. He would hurt people and I think people even died on his account with little to no consensuses. I started liking the show when something horrible happened to him and he started growing a concious. But... by that time the show was close to being canceled.

Yeah, i think their attempt to make the show more character driven than plot driven had several rough spots, then they found the right mix between plot and character stories.

Agreed. At first I WANTED to love the show but was having a hard time. The reason was due to the scientist, Rush.

That guy really got under my skin. He wasn't a villain, just really selfish what not. He would hurt people and I think people even died on his account w little to no consensuses. I started liking the show when something horrible happened to him and he started growing a concious. But... by that time the s was close to being canceled.

A common TV show theme is seeing a character evolve or change their spots
after a single incident. That was the basis for older TV programming because most shows would "reset" after each episode, and any crisis had to be
resolved in an episode. Rush was an interesting character because he never wanted to show his hand on how much he knew out of fear he either knew way
more or way less than he led on. Some characters try to change, but revert back to their old habits or familiar behaviors.

Same here. At first I was having trouble getting into it but it grew on me. By the last season I was really getting into it and then it was candled. :(

    Always the way. :/

That's the problem I have with some of these Marvel movies. A perfect example would be Spider-Man. I want to love it but it feels each new
movie is nothing more than a reboot. That kills it for me.

I think the superhero movies in general, they've all been rebooted, and are nothing like the origin stories from the comics.

syfy mgmt were behind universe but in the end, the number spoke for themselves.

it just had horrible ratings. it's sad because they had wonderful
actors. i guess the directors and writers are to blame.

Sadly, Universe was starting to hit the right balance and find its feet when they cancelled it.

Definitely not likeable, but he was quite a complex character. And yes, that point in the show is also when the plot took an interesting twist with some insights into what the original mission of Destiny was all about.

... Hmmm... there's another tagline that looks strangely familar...

Yeah.. I think they really screwed up with the characters. To me, Rush seemed way too instance from the start. Once I started enjoying the character's stories it was too late for the show.

Yes, they did that for too long, and forgot the plot a bit. Had they got a solid plot line going earlier, it would have helped.

The writers were out of their comfort zone, and I feel unless you were a new viewer, peopele were already used to the writing and dircting style of the previous SG series

okay, i dont know how they are out of their comfort zone. the regular writers wrote for stargate shows. they also had contributing writers that wrote for atlantis.

sgu wasnt that new of a concept.

i think they just had stargate burnout.
