How can I rescan a DOVENET conference to get all the old messages.
Initially it was not set up so the messages came in but could not be
recognized as the conference was not there. Now it is I believe I need
to do a rescan of that specific conference to bring in all old messages.

what i would do is delete your data files for the msg sub[s]
now is the time to increase the amount of msgs you want in the msg sub in scfg.

login to vert with your qwk acct, change your msg pointer date
force a poll on your bbs. you will get all the new msgs.

what i would do is delete your data files for the msg sub[s]

This worked. Thanks!

Steps I took
-+-
1. Stopped the bbs
2. Moved everything in /sbbs/data/subs to a backup folder
3. Increased the msgs for each board to 5000
4. Restarted the sbbs
5. Logged onto VERT and set the pointer 5000 from end.
I assumed this means from the newest message get me 5000 back in time.
6. Force a a pull from VERT which gave a RETR 500 error. So waited a bit.
7. Retried after a bit and messages started to come in so i did that until
I got the error again. I took that to mean it had everything.
8. Went back to vert to set the pointer back to newest but it looked like
It did that automatically so I did nothing.

I now have the Tech talk messages. I trust all steps taken were correct.

If you're running a version of Synchronet from the last 15 years or so, you don't need the messages to be word-wrapped in the QWK packets. Are you referring to the QWK packet configuration on Vetrauen? If so, yes, you definitely want that option turned off.

Your *local* sub-board setting (in SCFG->Message Areas) for enabling word-wrapping of message text when displayed, won't have any impact on how the messages are stored or parsed by avatars.js.
