RE: C vs. C++

Rob,
I've decided to take the plunge and learn C. However, I was told that C++ i better... and I'm a bit confused. Since you're the only professional C programmer I know, I was wondering if you could help me distinguish between and C++.
I was at Barnes and Noble looking at beginner C/C++ books and I got confused of which one to buy (I'm buying one soon). Which one should I start off in? I'm familiar with programming (I know several variants of BASIC and Pascal) and am familiar with beginner to intermediate programming techniques and ideas.
My main point is: should I learn C then C++ or should I jump into C++ withou worring about C? Any help is appreciated. :)
Later,
Sean

Sorry for the long quote.
I purchased "Programming in 12 easy lessons" by Greg Parry, SAMs publishing.
It was a bit miss leading, I thought I was getting a compiler, I got a Version of a Compiler that will not create stand alone programs.
I then picked up Borland Turbo C++ Suite that comes with a Turbo C++ 3.0 for DOS and Turbo C++ 4.5 for WIndows 16bit complilers, and has Learn to program with Borland C++ Builder 1.0 for WIndows 95 and NT.
Comp USA had it for $59.
I have been playing with the DOS and WIndows complilers and have found I write the code exactly in the book, perfect syntax and the compiler gives me errors. I think Boreland gave me a bug compiler or perhaps it is I am trying to use a DOS compiler in a WINDOWS 98 DOS prompt window. But it is frustratiing. I have been able to make a few programs that work. But so many commands do not work even when I type them exactly as in the book that I have just given up.
I used to program in GFA basic which used similar syntax as C++ and never had these problems.
Oh well, at least we got guys like Rob who figured all this shit out. :)
