What desktop environment are you guys using on GNU/Linux?

I use XFCE. Kind of light weight, and very customizable.

I originally used GNOME, but I was not a fan of the "iOS" look they stated in GNOME 3. I switched over to XFCE because of the use of GTK.

If you're wondering. I use Triskel which comes with the Trisquel
GNU/Linux distribution. It is GNOME2 fallback that has been customized

LXDE is a nice low-memory environment. it's the WM for Lubuntu, and on some of my boxes idles in 140 megs or so. Looks like old gnome, and has
a few eye-candy things you can do. I settle for a transparent bar at
the bottom and Conky on my low-end boxes.

Yeah, I have installed that one on a box for someone else who needed an environment that would "do" a little more for them than the more-spartan
IceWM would but that would still not eat up memory like some of the flashier environments. I like it.

I feel a little silly, since I've outgrown my single core pentium laptop with 1 gig of memory and now run LXDE on a duale core laptop with 8 gigs. Still idles in about 170 megs of RAM. :)

Dayum. That's nice. I however feel that MATE or XFCE is the lowest I'd
go in terms of a deksotp environment. LXDE just isn't for me. Maybe for
a server but for a desktop experience, nah.

If it works for you, there is nothing silly about it. :) It is nice to run
an OS that gives you such a choice.
