Warpslide, now that you have everything working decent.. Try
accessing your Jamnntpd server with the latest Thunderbird on Windows
if you can, and let me know if you get the same issue I'm having,
please. The from field above the message body in the top tile will
either show numbers, or a jumbled mess.
I tried sending this message in Thunderbldd and it wouldn't send, nor
would it connect with the NNTPS nginx proxy I have setup. Need to look into that a bit more.

Here's what I see in Thunderbird:

And how the same message looks in Claws:

Turns out Thunderbird really didn't like my self-signed certificate.
Let's Encrypt to the rescue...
I have a feeling there's still something wrong with Jamnntpd being ran
on 64bit Linux even if it was compiled on 32bit.
Would you mind trying to run it where you compiled it (on the older
version of 32bit Ubuntu) and see if that makes the From field display correctly in both Thunderbird and Claws mail?

Ok, so maybe something weird with pasting in Thunderbird, but this
looked fine when I pasted/posted it but got messed up server side.
THIS is what I pasted:

I copied the fsx_bbs JAM base over to Ubuntu 16.04 (32bit) and it looks
the same:

Out of curiousity, what does your jamnntpd.xlat file look like?
I added this line so that I could post from NewsTap on iOS and it only seems to support UTF-8 no matter what charset you set it to:
post utf-8 UTF-8
It's just super wierd that everything else seems to work, EXCEPT the
from field in the newsreader (even the headers and kludges seem fine).
So with Smapinntpd, compiled and running on 64bit linux, I have no
issues *except* with Thunderbird. Thunderbird still works, but it will
have something like "212/192" in the from field or something similar, guessing based on the node number of the sender. Otherwise, I can read
and write in Thunderbird fine. It has to be something specific to Thunderbird, but the difference in Jamnntpd vs Smapinntpd's code makes
it difficult to pinpoint.
Uh oh. So Carlos shot me a netmail this morning with the Jamnntpd 1.2
patch with the correct locations to put it.
Looks like I no longer have any issues with Smapinntpd and
Thunderbird!

Is this something you or Carlos would be willing to share? :)

Most definitely:
=== BEGIN
=== END
.. and you should be good to go!
That looks so much better, thanks again! :)How it's supposed to look! :)
