I remember my good old sysop days and I used to use GoldED as my message reader, I'm now on a Win1032 bit VM running Mystic and no doors yet and
I downloaded GoldED 2.50 and 3, tried them out with no luck, I even
enabled Windows 95 compa\tibility mode, when fired up it asks for
elevation and when I click Yes, a quick black console screen justs shows
up adn colses instantly.
I think i saw GoldED on a sig somewhere on these boards, but I don't
really klnow if that was Linux... I may move to Linux sommetime in the future but I want to get my stuff rteady first.
Adny advice is welcome fellas.

The blank screen may just be an indication of a configuration error.
If you're using a default configuration file and didn't change paths
or configure it completely to your setup, even the latest versions of Golded will go to a blank screen and close.

The latest version of Golded, I believe is from March 9, 2024.. and
the sources can be found on github.
There are also links to pre-compiled Windows versions out there. Here
is one that I found in the GOLDED echo on Fidonet:
http://download.golded.org/win/golded-plus-1.1.5-20240306-win32-msvc6.
zip
That should be one line with no spaces if it wrapped on your end.
Adny advice is welcome fellas.
Hope that helps!

Awesome Orphan,
IAs soon as I saw the icon I remembered it, fo course... well, it's
been 20+ years since.
Now I need to figure out a way to generate or find a golded.cfg and remember how it was done.
Best regards.

yup! found out the hard way, I skimmed through the README.1ST from older versions and got it running again, I did find that I needed, Name,
Address and AREADEF, I'm using Mystic so I found the export golded and export areas.bbs and I ran both, I have a config that looks like this
but still have some issues:
USERNAME David Gonzalez
ADDRESS 21:3/188
AREADEF Netmail "NETMAIL" 0 Net OPUS d:\bbs\mystic\msgs
AREAFILE AreasBBS d:\bbs\mystic\areas.bbs
- Netmail doesn't show anything.
- I'd like to start on the message area list
- How do I import area descripction so they don't show up as FSX_MYS but description.
- I've replied to many messages from GoldED, now how do I get those out using Mystic's mutil?
It did and thanks, now I need to get it set to play along iwth Mystic.

Use JAM instead of OPUS.

To answer these, you may have to set all of your AREADEF's manually, rather than using the areas.bbs from Mystic. This is how I do it here,
so I have separators (using AREASEP) to separate the networks, then
the areas for those specific networks listed under the separator.

You would either have to force mutil to run, then poll out. Or you
could probably setup a batch file that does this, and then utilize Golded's function keys (for example, setup F12 to run this batch file,
and hint: take a look at GOLDKEYS.CFG), that would run 'mutil
toss.ini' and 'mis poll <node>'.
So when you're done writing all of your messages, you can just hit F12 which would toss and send out your messages, then you can exit Golded
till next time.
Another way may be as easy as making an F-key create an echomail.out/netmail.out semaphore in Mystic's semaphore directory (if
you use semaphores with Mystic, of course), too.
It did and thanks, now I need to get it set to play along iwth
Mystic.
No worries, and glad it helped!
Golded plays very nice with Mystic. You just have to remember it's an external program that's sharing the JAM message bases. Some things may have to be done manually as Mystic isn't going to automatically detect that you posted a message in Golded.

Nick
