Software stores digitally should give people 5 years of minimum use. If they do not they are liable to refund the consumer the cost of the product.

From what I understand Nintendo took it down. I up until this point have chosen not to mod my 3DS but you won't be able to get the software you paid for online in the future so nope back that up.

I figured Nintendo would at least keep the online system in place since in the end it cost them almost nothing to operate.

All the more reason I just don't support consoles. PC is the way to go.

Softmode your 3ds, it isn't hard. Own your hardware and do what you want with it. Nintendo sure doesnt care about it anymore. Don't be afraid to do it. Softmod all the old consoles and handhelds.

Nintendo is gonna be Nintendo. Don't worry, they will resell all of these games to you on another console in the future.

There can be some pretty awful things about PC gaming too. There can be some great exclusives on consoles that PC won't see for years or ever too. There are plenty of pros and cons to each of them.

Buy physical games or try to use GOG. You rarely ever own your digital purchases.

Yup its done. Didn't do much with it but its modded.

Yeah I know, but as someone that doesn't buy consoles I won't be buying again. Closest thing I have to that is the Steam Deck. Which is really just a PC with a modified Linux to make it idiot proof.

Yeah I can see that which is why I really support steam. I have most of my DRM based media on them and if possible I always get it there just because they are the most likely to keep going in the future.

I have bought on GOG before but don't think about it as much as I should.

I've tended to play games on my PC a lot more than on a console. The newest game console I have is a Nintendo Wii.. If I miss out on some console games, I figure that's just the way it goes, and there are still plenty of PC games to play.

Buy physical games or try to use GOG. You rarely ever own your digital purchases.

I've been buying games from Steam for a while now. Steam had a feature that would let you make backups of your games, and would also write ISO images so you can burn them to DVD-R if you wanted to. I'm not sure if Steam still has that feature though..

I think there should be full refunds if a product is not kept on the digital store for at least 5 years. Partial refunds from 50% if taken down at year 5 day 1, to 10% refunded at year 9. People should be guranteed at least 10 years of digital access to their media.

I agree I think it should go beyond that but I agree.

I think that they should be required to make DRM free copies available for at least a full year and those that don't get them in time or notice in time get an automated refund of 50% of the value no matter how long its been. One of the only places that can promise that sort of thing would be Steam. They won't be going anywhere anytime soon. No one else can compete.

    That seems fair.

imo, I think DRM should not even be a thing at all, I don't see any value in it.

If you can solve this problem your a genius.

How do you get people to not pirate the software and release it DRM Free?
