Phew, it's been three days back in the office and my head hurts.
Moved to a new desk, met new team mates who started this week, trying to catch up with what needed attention in emails that arrived while away.
I think Saturday needs to hurry up :)
Yeah they are talking about making us go back to the office. To me
seems a little crazy. We have record inflation and now you want to add expenses to everyones lives.
I won't be looking forward to that.

I couldnt agree more! Expecially since I can do my job remote and do not interface with anyone in person.

What? You don't enjoy gathering 'round the water cooler and chit
chatting?
I wonder if your company is looking to reduce labor costs.
If people leave because they're unwilling or unable to go back to the office, then the company can do layoffs without having to pay severance, and it's not like commuting costs are paid for by the employer, outside
of business trips.
But I know higher-ups do like in-person work arrangements, for a variety of reasons (some better than others).

often. Technically I think I could, but the company owner where I work really prefers that people be in the office.
They kept telling us our productivity was up when we were at home full-time and/or in the office only one day a week. A few higher-ups
who don't like not having people around to bully didn't like that,
though.
So several months back, they congratulated us for doing such a good job, and then rewarded us with being able to work from home 2 days a week
(down from 4 or 5). That quickly changed, though. What they really wanted was people in the office 3 days, so folks on a 4x10 schedule only get to work from home 1 day. Also, contract employees went from having
to come in 1 day a week to being told 2-days remote a week to working full-time remote before the change took affect. That didn't set well
with some full-time employees but, hey, I don't miss them much so I am glad they are not around.

I kinda get the feeling that this is going to be the same or similar
when they do it this summer. With trying to shrink the workforce naturally well have to see what they choose to do. At one point many people will feel its not worth it if you can find something else that
is work from him and pays more. Even if the benefits aren't as good.
Any company that wants hard working talent right now can get it if they are willing to pay and head hunt. I know a ton of people that are
ready to jump ship.
Where I work, they sort of blew their feet off doing that. There were people who decided to go ahead and retire, but there were also many that quickly found they could get a higher-paying, at least equal benefit, job where they are remote full-time. I work for a government agency, so the pay is not really competitive any more for people who are skilled.
So, you end up with people who have too many years in and can retire soon (like me), or that are under-motivated and can't likely get a job elsewhere, or that are just biding their time to get some experience so they can get a job elsewhere.
