Does anyone know if Araknet is still a thing?
Many of the online sites etc seem to be down, or am I really late at the party? :-)

You're not alone in wondering this. No one seems to know for sure.

I suggest logging onto 20 For Beers BBS, which is a currently active ArakNet node (perhaps the most active), and posting in the ARAK echoes there to ask about the situation. That's probably the best way to get seen and hopefully get an answer.

Thanks. I've seen it on a couple boards. Not very busy.

Arak is alive and well; the FTN side of things is available @ 2oFB, and the website SHOULD be alive...

Theres a Discord channel if you want to chat w/ the Arak community; https://discord.gg/YjWxmqFP

One of the reasons the website might be having issues, or that you don't hear as much about Arak, is that Smooth... who's the main Arak guy, has been away from the scene for quite awhile. That being said, the entire Arak community is still kicking and theres even been some recent BBS mod releases.

    Cheers!

The Diamond Mine BBS (my board) subscribes to it. So yes, it's up and operational.

Araknet has been semi-broken since at least August of 2024. My hub
stopped answering, Smooth's BBS went down for a couple of months, I
contacted him and Anachronist on Discord, they moved me to a new hub,
    but I'm having connection issues.

It looked like Smooth's board came back up and some nets are still
working. All I saw were automated BBS ads that picked up where they'd
left off. Left a message for smooth on his board, no answer.

And... Smooth's board is down again.

I think Araknet is down for the count. It's a shame since Agoranet might be going down as well - they both covered the scene well.

Nah, you can count on me to be too lazy to take Agoranet down. Use it as much as you want! :)

ArakNet, the FTN, is an invite-only network - but you are certainly Arak-worthy and I'll nominate you if you have interest... I'm the newbie, learning from the Deons of the BBSlandscape. :P
'Arak mods' are released from the sister group Phenom... I'm sure you've seen Phenom releases in the different file areas.

Ahh thanks - I'd be in, if I get an invite :)

I'm no ANSI artist (I've seen some awesome artwork, which I guess comes from the folks as well?) but I do like to see what mods are being created (for ideas) and what things that could be done to add to the BBS experience.

I'm blown away by your one Ceefax (or similar) Synchronet board... what BBS would you want to be nominated??

    Address too, please.

    Thank you sir... :)

I've got the content networking now, but I need to refix messaging...

That would be alterant.bbs.dege.au port 23. It always needs more work, and every now and again I fix more or complete things...
