the cliff. The downtown area now looks like a war zone, with tents, homeless, drug addicts laying all around. Needles and human waste all over the ground. It has to be seen to be believed. I mostly enjoyed my time there, but would never go back now.

seattles finest == starbucks LOLYeah...no. I don't do coffee, especially over priced coffee with names I can't pronounce.
You should try the Nigel's Song of the Day group on
Facebook. I've got everything from the 1920's to well,
mostly late 90's some 2000's+ stuff, but as we've already
established, most music after the 80's was pretty shite.
That's one reason I don't collect vinyl albums..There is also the fact that LPs cost an arm and a leg. New albums can go for $30 without shipping. You can get the digital version for a third of the

I realised that buying vinyl is nice, but sometimes you don't
get the full version from the cd version. I bought the new
Porcupine Tree album and it didnt have all the tracks. Tracks
8-11 likely need a third record :(
That's one reason I don't collect vinyl albums.. Another example is
(I've heard) the vinyl version of Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms
album doesn't have the full version of Money For Nothing (and maybe
another song or two) because the vinyl doesn't have as much room as
CDs.
I also don't really like that you typically get some hiss and
pops/crackles from vinyl.. I just tend to prefer a CD or other
digital form of a recording.

I've got 3500 CDs to sell since you like them...so I can buy more vinyl.
But you're right. Brothers in Arms CD and album have different version
of Monday for Nothing,
but then again, so does Canada since "faggot"
wasn't permitted on the record :)
Also, No Jacket Required by Phil Collins has a bonus track on the Cd,
"We Said Hello Goodbye" which I really like. I bet Phil had enough material that he could have released a double album of quality work
around that time.
For some reason, your reply was addressed to "All", so it didn't come up in a new-to-me message scan. But when reading new messages, I see this was in reply to my message.
But you're right. Brothers in Arms CD and album have different version of Monday for Nothing,
Money, not Monday. :)
I like Phil Collins as well.

Yeah, I thought it was weird that he used that word in the lyrics.

Similar to R.E.M. - I really like their early stuff and upto New Adventures in Hi-Fi then got a bit stuck with Up and Reveal, not even listened to Accelerate, since I heard there's a lot of political type songs. I don't even remember Collapse into Now.
If you know the background, it is not. They were making fun of the people who call rock starts names like faggot because they don't see rock stars as manly men like they see themselves. I am guessing it was worse for hair bands, which Dire Sraits was not.
You could have convinced me that they'd broke up after those songs came out as I have never heard of the albums you mention above. :)

You can just imagine this guy who is looking at the TV, watching
someone like Boy George on MTV and saying "that little faggot with the earing and the make up"...

You should give Monster a listen. I think it's a well put together and produced ...oh wait. What's the Frequency was from Monster. Did you
just hear the track or the album? Circus Envy is one of my faovrite
songs, I love the overdriven guitar. Bang and Blame was a hit too.

At the time, I would have heard the album. I have not heard any tracks but that one song in several years. I think between when MTV got to where they quit playing videos, and when my college friends and I all grew up and
moved on to work, families, etc., I lost touch with a lot of the bands I used to listen to then.
That, and I don't have the long commute where I listen to the radio for an hour+ a day. I rarely turn it on now.
[...] I neded up listening to a copy of Alchemy by Dire
Straits on my 1.5 hour each way bus commute until the tape
broke.
I am not a huge radio person. It's the same music over and
over again anyway. Tired of listening to the same 3 Eagles
or same 3 U2 songs. There's much more variety out there.
You say that you had no problem with listening to "the same"
Dire Straits tape over and over, but you're not a fan of the
radio cuz it's "the same" material over and over. What's the
difference really? :/

Ah, that's true, I knew the song's lyrics were from some movers moving some things into a building and watching a music video on TV. Still, I can see how people might not like hearing that word, and possibly misunderstanding the song too.

Unfortunatly the music I like stopped being new, and so now the new stuff tends to just annoy me, I'm not really into pop music and I have a collection of stuff I like.

Because I'm a fan of Dire Straits and not a fan of The Eagles or U2 :)
Finally, Sultans of Swing is one of the best songs ever written, especially live.
I generally like to have control over what I listen to.
Yes, there are certain bands I can listen to over and
over, but also there's a lot of music. tons, hundreds and
thousands of songs.
One day I was driving and decided to turn on the radio for
something different. They were playing The Eagles. I
decide to change to another station, they were playing The
Eagles, though a different song. Try the 3rd
channel...commercial break...I suffer through it and they
play... The Eagles, same song as the first station. This
is what drives me crazy. There is a lack of variety in the
commercial radio world.
Finally, Sultans of Swing is one of the best songs ever written, especially live.

For me it's the selection. When I was in high school, I'd listen to
Triple J (Radio Station) all the time, they played a lot of new stuff,
and I didn't have a collection of music (often taped songs from the
radio to listen to later)

Plus, Alchemy is 2CDs so there's a nice variety of songs.

+1 Good answer! :D Albiet, some Eagles and U2 are quite
fine.

I absolutley concur! It's one particular song that I can never
grow tired of. I heard it for the first time in a studio at my
university radio station. Combined with good monitor speakers
the song and instrumentation was amazing.
BTW.. here is a playlist I built over the course of a few days
featuring mostly some new and old tunes that I'd never heard
before. Some tunes I just threw in there cuz although they are
older they still grace the REPEAT function!
I agree. That's one song I've been trying off and on over the years to learn to play on guitar more like Mark Knopfler plays it (I learned the chords for it, but it's not quite like he plays it).
Because of Alchemy, I actually have to give Tunnel of Love an advantage in that category. That, and Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness at the Monterry Pops Festival, is probably my most favorite recorded live song performances.
I'll be in Seattle, WA next week for Pet Shop Boys/New Order concert. If you have a few hours, come drive up on the Saturday and bring a guitar (or two if you have them) and I'll show the licks. Bring beer :)
It would be cool to meet up. Seattle is a bit of a drive from where I am, so I'll have to see how things work out. I don't really like beer much, but I'd bring some for you if you want. :)

Survived? I probably wouldn't mind living in the Seattle area.
But I've heard the traffic can be worse than where I'm living
now.
