I found a store in Germany that will ship me stuff that comes in for Record Store Day, which is nice, because there's some European only releases that you can't get in the US.

As for other stuff, just Google search or look for record stores and see if they'll ship. Most will if they're on the internet.

Thankfully, living in a somewhat big city, we have a number of record stores. Unfortunately the cost of new vinyl is getting expensive and older records are holding their value, especially if you buy from a record store.

These days I looks for people selling collections and then go through and sell off what I don't want to keep, usually making my money back.

That said, I'm not doing so well with 3,500 CDs :)

I'm still working on it. The problem is I have discs everywhere so it's hard keeping track of where they are when I need to move them for some reason. lol

I feel your pain. I have a similar situation but I only had
about 2500 CDs at peak. However, I've probably whittled it
down to 2200; I went througha little phase of getting rid of
dupes (which I was surprised I had!) ..and CDs that I was very
confident that I wasn't going to bother with anymore.

I started to use Discogs to begin cataloging. My rule was "if I
play a CD, then document it in Discogs". I didn't get very
far; maybe 8 CDs at most. :( ..and that was just in a span
of a few weeks last year or so.

There once was a very fine app called Shelfie. With it, you
could take pictures of the SPINE of any book, and it would
produce a data-record of the cover, title, author, isbn code,
publisher, etc. It was truly very clever and convenient. I
could just take a picture of the books filed on a shelf (or
just a pile of books on the floor or lined up in a box in my
case) and it would produce a detailed list.

Something like that for CDs would be quite fine.

It seems record stores have been disappearing over the past 20 years or so. There are only a couple in my area I can think of, and one of them mainly sells used music. I also find it sad that the music sections of big stores (such as Target, Best Buy, Wal Mart, etc.) are shrinking or even disappearing altogether.

When I buy deluxe releases of albums, i do offload the regular versions to charity shops like the local library. I also have 15 years of digital music also to take care of as well.

I setup a local MusicBrainz mirror and downloaded the Discogs database and used a script to import the xml files, then I wrote a PERL script that would look up the barcode or catalog number. I have a barcode scanner and it was pretty easy to rip through a bunch. Only problem is, I forgot which bunch and where they are lol.

I've got about 400 in my closet, a bookshelf full in the bedroom, several stacks in the hallway and a couple of huge boxes under the wife's desk so that's where my problem is. They're not sorted in any way and I don't really have room to do it until I'm going to do some kind of bubble sort lol.

I picked up lots in batches which leaves me with a bunch of CDs that I either don't want or don't need. With one batch I picked up there was a whole load of Christian and country (and probably Christian county) that I would never listen to if my life depended on it.

Sometimes. Generally you get a better deal when you buy a bulk load rather than individual ones. I can then sort through for the ones I want and off load the rest...that's the theory anyway :)

I can see never listening to most of it, but if there was any Johnny Cash
or Kentucky Headhunters or other such amongst the country disks, those
would get plenty of listens here. Most of today's country I feel the same
    way as you about. ;)

You gotta simply start somewhere and mark it "DONE" somehow.
Maybe just take a picture of a pile that is DONE. And/or work
your way thru in one particular direction (clockwise, counter-
clockwise) in a room, and then just start AND finish each
collection on a PER room basis.

Get the ones in the closet done first.
Then, move on to the bookshelf.
Then, do the hallways stacks in a consecutive manner.

The last load of CDs that I had were dropped off at my shop
pre-covid. I paid about 50cents each. There were several
hundred. All quite prestine condition. I sorted them a bit.
Many were the Time-Life series of rock'n'roll. They sold rather
    fast and well.

But the supply of CDs from someone's collection may be
diminishing. Some might be attainable at a yard sale, but that
option is not available to me.

Hehe, used to find entire collections in hard rubbish and dumpsters here... I got tired of looking through them though, most tended to be nothing I'd be remotely interested in. Wacky dance muzac, trance and the like..
