• Echomail Compression

    Hi All,

Does anyone know which compression formats Mystic supports when importing compressed echomail bundles? It seems to work if they're compressed with .zip or .rar, but others I've tried (.arc & .7z) will just get skipped, even if I have the archiver installed & enabled:

    ----------------- MUTIL v1.12 A48 2023/01/15 Sun, Feb 25 2024 (loglevel 3)
    + Feb 25 15:10:04 Startup using mutil.ini
    - Feb 25 15:10:04 EXEC ImportEchoMail
    - Feb 25 15:10:04 EXEC LinkMessages
    + Feb 25 15:10:04 Process: Importing EchoMail
+ Feb 25 15:10:04 Waiting for BUSY nodes
    ! Feb 25 15:10:04 Import from c:\mystic\echomail\in\
! Feb 25 15:10:04 Cannot find arctype for bf7a6bd9.su0; skipping

Mystic will create the outbound archive (in .7z or .arc) and export it where it'll process it on the other side, but any received packets in these formats are skipped.

I mostly stick to uncompressed .pkt files or .zip compression (usually only used when %RESCAN'ing), but was just curious what other methods Mystic supports for inbound. I didn't see anything in mystic.txt or whatsnew.txt, unless I missed it.

my take is that if you have the archiver installed, and defined with the correct syntax in Mystic config > editors > archive editor .. and you then define the extension used in the echomail node 'archive type' field Mystic should play along and attempt that compression / decompression for the packets it's handling for that echomail node.

g00r00 has for the most part left those default settings in the archives untouched for some time, there were a few minor tweaks to ZIP from memory..and more recently additions to handle text files but that's been about it.

Fair to say most folks use either ZIP/UNZIP or uncompressed raw packets these days but there's nothing to stop you using another compression tool so long and sender and receiver have it installed and things are configured correctly between both systems.
