    I think I found what you were talking about with the reader on my local
    areas. One of the SBBS foibles is having partial configs for nodes in each node directory, and the same in its root directory.

    At some point the copy that was loading was reading an empty boards.bbs from the wrong location. Hard to tell at first, they all have the same file size,
    so the entire thing must be allocated even if they're empty. Cleaned it up a little and presto you can have it for local areas again.
