Hi Digital Man


First I like to thank you for the chat on relay chat yesterday
(sneaky) I injoyed the chat but I am sorry about the the end
part,I think you were ready to ring my neck or throw samething
at me , I am not at give discription so I try again here.

when I was chatting with you, I had installed a fresh sbbs317b
on another, with no other copies of sbbs, (there are other
copyies on other computers and hyper-v so if it picks
up other sbbs config file must go via my network).

I install the sbbs317b and every thing with real name worked
fine alias and real name was fine

now if I go to
scfg/nodes/node 1/toggle options/allow login by real name
and is on (yes) and real name works, if (no) it doesn't
work as it shouldn't so all fine up to here.

I must be coping the files from sbbs_dev the wrong way or
same thing, when I do copy the new files over the into
the exec dir, then load up the control panel and do a jsexec update
the try to login as real name but still cannot unknown user
alias is fine

now if I go to
scfg/nodes/node 1/toggle options/allow login by real name
and is on (yes) no change to real name unknown
if I go to
scfg/nodes/node 1/toggle options/allow login by real name
and is off (No) still no change to real name unknown

so it not reading the toggle options command, or it has
to do samething with all my computers not reading
the scfg toggle option, or the problem is else were
and I don't now were

I have
set sbbs=c:\sbbs etc in my autoexec.nt in windows/system32

any help will be greatful

My main frustration was that you would not answer follow-up questions or even respond for long periods of time. So sorry, to say, not an enjoyable chat for me. But I really do want your problem resolved.

Where is "here"? You're talking about multiple systems apparently, but "here" doesn't tell me which one.

Try setting *all* the nodes to "Allow Login by Real Name" = Yes.

Wow. That's a weird random fact.

1. Windows doesn't use autoexec.nt for anything but the 16-bit (MS-DOS) sub-system. Synchronet for Win32 is a 32-bit program, so anything you do to autoexec.nt will have no affect.

2. An environment variable of "sbbs" means nothing to Synchronet. If you want to know which environment variables Synchronet actually uses and sets, see

3. I don't know which system you're even talking about now.

My suggestion is to upgrade your BBS to v3.18a. Then if you have a problem, install TeamViewer or something similar, connect with my IRC and I'll connect to your desktop and help you resolve it. But *talking* about the problem with you is not really getting us anywhere.

Yes on another computer not VM but have removed that and now the vm that you first login to my main sbbs that I am working on now .

well working fine at that point till I upgraded per 317b

just the documentation [even the old stuff] is so superior in comparison to other bbs softwares. whenever i am helping out a friend with another bbs software i am reminded by how good the documentation is, despite having to hunt around for info on recent changes.

i'm helping a friend get elebbs back up and you get their crappy docs and then you have to use the ra docs.
