I have a firewall script that will block an IP if it connects more than 4 times in a few minutes.
I'm not sure what OS you're running on, but it's pretty easy to do with Linux.

fail2ban/denyhost are great tools to avoid these bots

Yeah, I use CSF (as I've been using it for 10+ years at this point) but I do use F2B elsewhere. F2B has really matured over the years and preventing
