Im not a glutton for punishment for the extra class.
I would rather get to know the radio and antennas before i do the last step.

I was first licensed in 2011, passed tech and gen first try, but didn't quite get enough for the extra. Almost 14 years later, still working with my general.

Maybe we both encourage each other on the upgrade :)

Congrats. I was licensed Technician in 1998 and got my General in 2009.

Taking your time and learning the hobby is a good idea. Find a local club and hang out with the OMs. You'll learn more from them than anything else.

Been so long for me, I forgot that part. Should plan a sked qso sometime. Or a FSX_HAM net?

Congrats! I completely agree with the extra part. If I can pass it through the experience I have earned through use then I deserve the little bit of space you get and the reciprocity you get in other countries.

I took the Amateur Extra exam once many years ago when FCC employees came to town to give the exam.
Back then there was a question about Satellite operation which I had No Idea about .
Another one was about a UHF circuit that had a Triode tube (maybe a Tetrode?). I failed the Written portion but had passed the CW part and left the room with a Temporary Permit for Advanced Class.
Way back then Conditionals, Generals, Advanced and Amateur Extra all had the same Frequency Privelages.

I wanted to bring my radio to the UK next year, but It seems I have to have extra just to use it without hoops.

I haven't spent any time looking in to it but From what I have heard it is possible to get a pass or some kind of temporary permission. I could be wrong but I would research before just giving up.

    Hi, Claw.

Took some digging but as soon as I found it I knew that was the one. Had it picked while waiting on my license to issue. As soon as it did I applied :D

Yeah, despite the M7 call sign I have actually passed the intermediate level license. It's just that when I came to pick a 2W callsign there were only the absolute dregs left to pick from. If my M7 callsign had been rubbish then I wouldn't have minded so much but it basically has my name in it... So, yeah, I've had higher privs for 3 or 4 years but stuck with my foundation callsign.

I should probably go and see if they've released any more in the meantime!
