I suddenly remembered that I had planned to make PVC mudguards. Similar to = defective windscreen wipers, they only show as a problem when it rains.

My plan was to slice a PVC tube lengthwise, kerf one half, bend it around =
the wheel using a hot air gun, let it set, fill in the kerf slots with "bog=
" or similar, sand, paint, and attach over the wheels to suit. I still have=
to do it and should do it sooner rather than later. Watch this space. Migh=
    t get started this afternoon.

Before anyone gets too carried away with making mudguards, it may pay to co= nsider the bogging process.

My single mudguard was left sitting on a bench awaiting time to progress i=
t further. Unfortunately, I knocked it off and it fell on the ground. Many =
of the bogged kerfs cracked with the bog and the PVC separating. Maybe PVC =
is something that PlastiBond doesn't like? I have used it for filling welde=
d steel to make it look better where the angle grinder wouldn't fit and it =
    is OK.

Bog, from my experience requires a rough surface (80-120 grit) foothold and=
a chemically sterile (i.e No wax, grease etc) surface to perform a good bo= nd, but even then you have to consider your hardener ratios, humidity, temp=
, and material permeability, flexibility to gain better performance. even t= hen bog under ideal conditions does not like temp variations, heat, dissimi= lar materials (i.e metal and plastic in the same area to be bogged), substr= ate surface expansion (ie. sheet metal on a hot day) and especially, shock = and vibration. An alternative maybe fiberglass, resin, carbon fibre or 2pac=
k polyurethane resins from easy cast which is like castable pvc in a way. i=
t files, joins, flexes, and stands up to more abuse than bog. But with stee=
l, Alu etc weld smoothing bog is still king due to these parts made by comm=
on ferrous and non ferrous materials usually are rigid non flex stable comp= onents i.e vehicle non structural sheet metal if the prep is done right tha=
t is. I've used "easy cast" (2pack polyurethane resins) before on similar p=
vc projects and found it vastly outperforms, compared to bog. You can by th= ese easy cast kits from Riot art supply for approx $45 Aud or online i gues=
s for less, these kits come in various sizes from 250mL to 1L and comprise =
of instructions of use and part A bottle (resin) and Part B bottle (hardene= r/catalyst/ accelerator). You could even buy silicone mold kits and "pour" = one piece parts from scratch using easy cast a silicone mold and a clay die=
(original relief cast for the silicone mold). Hope this helps.
